Commitment to Health and Fitness

Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy (PTAA) is committed to adhering to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) mandates for Physical Education (PE) to ensure our students develop healthy lifestyles and lifelong fitness habits.

Elementary School (K-5)

At PTAA, elementary students (grades K-5) participate in at least 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity each day, fully aligning with TEA requirements. We integrate this physical activity into our daily schedule through structured PE classes and active learning sessions that promote movement and physical health.

Middle School (6-8)

For our middle school students (grades 6-8), PTAA offers PE programs that meet TEA’s requirement of four semesters of physical education. Each semester, students engage in a minimum of 225 minutes of physical activity over a two-week period. This includes a mix of traditional PE classes, team sports, and fitness activities that foster teamwork, physical endurance, and a positive attitude toward health.

High School (9-12)

In high school (grades 9-12), PTAA students are required to earn at least one PE credit to graduate, as mandated by the TEA. We offer a range of options to fulfill this requirement, including traditional PE classes, athletics, dance, and other approved physical activities. These programs are designed to provide students with diverse opportunities to stay active and develop their physical fitness.

PE Programs and Additional Texas Requirements

To ensure the health and wellness of our students and maintain compliance with state educational requirements, PTAA provides a robust physical education program:

  • All students in PE grades K-12, including those with disabilities, special health-care needs, and in alternative educational settings, will receive at least the minimum state-required physical education for grades K-8.
  • In addition to structured PE classes, students are offered at least one physical activity opportunity each day. This includes recess, afterschool clubs, and athletics.
  • Parents are notified that they may request their child’s physical fitness assessment results at the end of the school year.
Additional Texas Physical Education Requirements
  • Curriculum Standards: Physical education includes a curriculum that promotes physical development through motor skills, physical fitness, and sportsmanship.
  • Qualified Instructors: PE classes are taught by trained instructors who understand the needs of diverse learners.
  • Inclusive Activities: Activities are inclusive and designed to meet the needs of all students, including those with disabilities.
  • Safety Protocols: Schools implement safety protocols to ensure a safe environment for all physical activities, including proper supervision and equipment checks.
  • Health Policies: Schools adopt policies to ensure compliance with vending machine and food service guidelines and penalize the use of tobacco products on school grounds.
